Some 11 Lebanese were executed in Congo
Lebanon-Congo, Politics, 3/8/2001

The Lebanese officials have avoided on Wednesday to comment on the massacre committed in Kinshasa against 11 Lebanese, awaiting a report from the Lebanese ambassador in Congo, Shehadeh al-Mu'alli, and from the special envoy Haitham Jumaa who left on Wednesday to Brussels and is expected to arrive today ( Thursday) in Kinshasa, AfricanNews.com reported.

Well-informed diplomatic sources said that the Lebanese diplomatic contacts have not ceased since the Lebanese foreign ministry 12 days ago received information saying that the Lebanese who were arrested on January 16, were killed in a prison outside Kinshasa, but the actual problem is that all efforts made by Lebanon with France, Belgium, Sudan and Ethiopia to save those Lebanese have not succeeded despite the fact that news about killing them did not weaken the determination of the Lebanese officials who doubled their efforts to rescue the life of those Lebanese, AfricanNews.com added.

The sources added that waiting to comment on this massacre is because the Lebanese officials want to know the reasons behind the killings on the ground that what was stated by the Congoli's minister of justice that those Lebanese were killed among others killed following the assassination of former President Luran Kapilla and that the massacre took place after the new President assumed power, besides that those Lebanese were arrested by soldiers at the Congo's regular army before the assassination of the former President.

However, a source at the Lebanese community said on Wednesday that two ministers at the government of democratic Congo stressed that the 11 Lebanese were executed after the assassination of Kapilla.

The source added that the two ministers said that an investigation will be made over the execution of those Lebanese.
