Saudi Arabia-Regional, Local, 3/7/2001

The Saudi official TV said on Monday that among the pilgrims who were killed in the rush incidents in " Mouna valley" near Mecca upon performing al-Haj rituals were 23 women and 12 men.

Other pilgrims were slightly wounded, according to a statement by the Saudi civil defense department.

The chairman of the Syrian Pilgrims mission Hisham Saltaji said no one of the Syrian pilgrims was reported to be hit or wounded.

More than 2 million pilgrims on Monday walked from Arafa mountain to Wadi ( Valley ) Mouna before they head to the " old house."

The pilgrims throw stones in three sites, imitating what prophet Ibrahim ( the father of prophets ), his wife Hajer and son Ismael, as each of them stoned " Satan" from this place by seven stones.

Then the pilgrims headed to Mecca to walk around the tomb of the prophet, a process which is considered the most important of al- Haj rituals after standing on Arafat mountain and then returned back to Mouna to spend two or three days by which al-Haj rituals will be completed.
