Morocco says no Moroccan died in pilgrimage stampede
Morocco, Local, 3/7/2001

No Moroccan national has died in the stampede that occurred on Monday as thousands of Muslims converged in Mina, to perform the ritual of stoning the devil by throwing pebbles at stone columns.

The Moroccan ministry of habous (Islamic endowments and religious affairs) said no Moroccan was among the 35 persons who died in the accident.

The 35 people were killed when worshipers crowded and crushed one another in the second incident of the kind after April 1998, when at least 118 pilgrims died and more than 180 were injured in a stampede during the Mina ritual.
