Seif's guest house; abuse of emergency laws a root problem

Talks about social, economic and political reforms in Syria have been continued at Syrian member of parliament Riyadh Seif.

The Qatari daily al-Raya in its Saturday's issue quoted Shbili alShami ( a Syrian intellectual and economist ) said that the Syrian authorities took a decision to prevent the holding of any Syrian citizen for more than three days without a judicial notification.

Al-Shami, who is a university teacher at the faculty of engineering at Damascus university said that this decision has come to limit the use of the " emergency law" and this decision was circulated on the state departments in Syria.

The discussions centered on the need of dismembering the link between the economic and social aspects advocated by the government, while he advocates of reforms and civil society partisans stressed that economic reforms can not be attained without political reforms.
