Morocco's traditional fashion show supports rural girls schooling
Morocco, Culture, 3/1/2001
The 5th Caftan 2001 event, a fashion show of Moroccan traditional couture, to be held in Casablanca this Thursday will give returns to programs meant to encourage the schooling of girls in rural areas.
Organizers said Wednesday at a press conference women magazine "Femmes du Maroc" and the Committee for Girls Schooling are seeking to establish a happy fusion between the luxury fashion world and social work.
They deplored a high deficit of girl schooling in rural areas, which currently stands at 74.1%.
Moroccan and foreign stylists will be exhibiting their creations while a retrospective of the French Yves Saint Laurent will crown the show that will be aired live on 2M TV channel.
Was also present at the press conference head of the Moroccan Industrial Property Office who urged Moroccan creators to register their trade mark and explained how this procedure will protect them.
Last year's edition of Caftan fashion show has helped build a shelter for girls in a middle Atlas village. Seven other boardings were build in seven regions to allow 77 girls to carry on secondary studies.
