China to investigate US complaints over Iraq
Iraq-China, Politics, 2/28/2001
China on Tuesday expressed its readiness to investigate American complaints that Chinese workers have helped Iraq in rebuilding its air defenses.
A spokeswoman for the Chinese foreign ministry reiterated China's honoring to UN resolutions pertinent to Iraq, adding that Beijing has decision that obliged Chinese companies to abide by.
The spokeswoman added in a press conference on Tuesday: " as for the situation raised by the American side, China can make investigation to that effect."
Meantime, the Iraqi foreign minister Muhammad Saeed al-Sahaf has ruled out the return back of UN inspectors once again to Iraq even if the sanctions are lifted completely, stressing that Iraq has implemented all requirements of UN resolution 687 and new conditions should not be added.
In a statement to the BBC correspondent at the UN, al-Sahaf added Iraq might co-operate with a monitoring system more flexible but under the condition that this will be applicable on Israel which owns a nuclear program, noting that finding a Middle East free from mass destruction weapons will not be made unless Israel is subjected to an international monitoring and inspection system.
