Transparent elections, Morocco's sole way to change, pm
Morocco, Politics, 2/27/2001

Moroccan Prime Minister, Abderrahmane Youssoufi, said last week that transparent elections is Morocco's sole way to change.

Youssoufi, who was speaking a special program broadcast Friday by the Moroccan first TV channel TVM, said the government is determined to work with all "sincere sides" to materialize the Moroccan people's aspirations to honest elections.

"If we ended our term without managing to hold sound elections, all our positive actions would be vain," Youssoufi said.

Youssoufi, who surveyed the government's achievements in various fields especially education, said the macro-economic balance that Morocco strives to preserve is necessary for the sound management of the country's affairs.

He recalled, in this vein, that Morocco's budget deficit was kept at low rates over the past three years, despite the successive drought.

The Prime Minister announced that the government will maintain the anti-drought program and will mobilize the necessary funds for the development of the rural world.

He also noted that investments were boosted in Morocco, despite red tape. He cited in this connection the investment projects carried out by several power groups in Morocco. The Premier dwelt on several measures implemented by the government to encourage investments.
