Moussa stresses: Three-peace tracks are inseparabile
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 2/26/2001

Egypt's Foreign minister Amr Moussa underlined the inseparability of three peace tracks between Israel and each of Syria, Lebanon and Palestine, bearing in mind that the peace process is not confined to the Palestinian rights but extends to include all Arab rights.

In statements to MENA Monday, Moussa said that he sensed a change in the US approach towards the peace process during his meeting with US secretary of state Colin Powell Saturday.

"The United States manifested a desire to have the situation cleared up and get abreast of facts," said Moussa.

"The Americans urged to give Israeli prime minister-elect Ariel Sharon a chance to get acquainted with his ideas towards the peace process although we are nearly positive of what Sharon would come up with, but perhaps he has good ideas," he added.

On the Egyptian-Iranian relations, Moussa said that there was a steady progress at present, expressing hope that more steps of normalization would be taken in the upcoming period.

On the dispute between Iran and the united Arab emirates (UAE) over the three islands (Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Moussa), the foreign minister hoped the dispute over these three islands would end soon, urging all countries of the region to establish strong basis for close cooperation among them.

Asked on the outcome of the D-8 summit that wound up proceedings in Cairo Sunday, Moussa said that the summit was remarkably positive and it has approved several projects that would enhance cooperation among the eight Islamic developing countries in all fields.

The foreign minister said the summit agreed to conduct an additional study on the Egyptian proposal to establish an international company for trade and marketing among the D-8 countries.

"Organizational structures of the company and the volume of contribution floated for the private sector therein were also discussed," said Moussa.

He added that the summit also saw the signing of an agreement to facilitate granting entry visas for businessmen among the group's countries in a way to open the door before the private sector to set up more joint ventures.
