Stock market capitalization declines by 16.7% in 2000

Morocco's stock market capitalization reached 114.8 billion DH ($ 13.7 billion) in 2000, which is a decline of 16.7% compared to the previous year, said the monthly newsletter of the Casablanca bourse.
The volume of transactions was worth 35.43 billion DH ($ 3.37 billion), recording a 61% drop compared to 1999, due to the slowing of the central market activity (51%) and the number of strategic operations conducted on the bloc market (67%).
Closing the year at 658.43 points the bourse general index (IGB) decreased by 15.27% compared to the same period of 1999, said the newsletter.
