D-8 Summit, new boost to economic cooperation

Egypt's Prime Minister Atef Ebeid has stressed the importance of the D-8 summit saying it would make exmpahsis on economic aspects and would enhance commercial and economic cooperation among the D-8 members.

He said the summit acquires a special significance in the light of the regional and international developments.

He said the summit meetings would witness the signing of a number of agreements on expanding joint investments between Egypt and those countries.

Representatives of the first D-8 forum of the chambers of trade and commerce and businessmen association agreed with their counterparts representatives of D-8 commissioner panel to organise a meeting for D-8 central banks' governors.

The meeting would be held on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the World Bank (WB) and the international Monetary Fund (IMF) .

During their joint meeting late Friday, both sides agreed to hold a meeting for D-8 private-airline owners on organizing direct cargo and passengers flights.

They also agreed that D-8 banks would provide businessmen, who would carry out trade activities in D-8 member states with credit facilities and to hold the forum meeting on the fringe of each D-8 summit every two years.

They agreed to work for cutting down customs tariffs for promoting inter D-8 trade.
