Egyptian-Pakistani relations, cordial and profound

Pervez Musharraf, the Chief Executive of Pakistan will arrive to Cairo tomorrow to take part in the summit of the Islamic eight states, under President Hosni Mubarak.

In a special interview with Al-Gomhuria daily newspaper, he termed the Egyptian-Pakistani relations as good and ever growing, and stated that he would meet with President Mubarak on the sidelines of the D-8 to exchange views on the developments in the Middle East and South Asia, and the issues of mutual interest. Excerpts:

*The Egyptian-Pakistani relations are characterized with good intentions and mutual understanding.

*Since I assumed the responsibility in Pakistan, I am keen on enhancing the relations with Egypt.

*The D-8 would be a good opportunity to meet with President Mubarak and exchange views on the various international and regional issues of mutual interest, with special focus on the Middle East and South Asia.

*We are satisfied and grateful of the continuous support of the Islamic world and the OIC.

*The Kashmir issue, just as the Palestine issue concerns the entire Islamic world.

*Our relations with China are historic and strong, as both of us are keen on peace and stability in South Asia.

*We hope that the new US Administration would play an active role in South Asia.

*We support the peace process in the Middle East, and hope that it would realize the just, lasting and comprehensive peace in the region, including the establishment of the Palestinian state with Jerusalem as it capital.
