Senegal's Wade gets message from King Mohammed
Morocco-Senegal, Politics, 2/23/2001
President Abdoulaye Wade of Senegal on Thursday received a message from Morocco's King Mohammed VI, dealing with bilateral relations.
The message was handed to Wade by Royal advisor, Mohammed Kabbaj, who arrived Thursday in Dakar.
Morocco is interested in a plan envisioned by President Wade for the development of Africa, Kabbaj told the press after the meeting.
The Royal advisor lauded the Senegalese President's "extremely ambitious vision" for Africa, adding that this vision perfectly matches King Mohammed VI's.
Kabbaj added he discussed with Wade his plan and the vision he has for the future of Africa as well as the steps to make to translate it into reality. Discussions also covered the implementation of joint projects in all fields, especially those dealing with the development of the region, he said, lauding the launching on Wednesday of the Moroccan-Senegalese air company.
Touching on the projected Tangiers-Dakar road via Nouakchott, the Royal advisor said the project is progressing. He noted that the road section on the Moroccan territory is almost completed, adding that studies are ready for the Nouadibou-Nouakchot section in Mauritania and works will start shortly. He added that project to construct a bridge on the Rosso river in Senegal will also be carried out shortly.
The official underlined that President Wade grants a special importance to the project. He noted that the vision of the three heads of state (King Mohammed VI, President Wade and President Mouaouia Ould Sid Ahmed Taya of Mauritania) goes beyond the notion of a simple road to encompass the creation of an axis of vast international exchanges, or even intercontinental between Europe and Africa. Such a project will completely transform the region's economy, he added.
