Moroccan government worried at hardships facing moroccan expatriates
Morocco, Culture, 2/22/2001
The Moroccan government is worried over hardships facing the Moroccan expatriates in the host country and attempts to their rights and dignity, says a statement of prime minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi's office.
The government renewed resolve to take all measures needed to support the Moroccan community settled abroad and preserve their rights and dignity.
The statement was released following a meeting of the ministerial commission in charge of the situation of Moroccans living abroad, chaired by the prime minister.
The meeting looked into the issue of Moroccan children living illegally abroad -mainly in Italy and Spain- and the situation of those living in the Spanish southern locality of El Ejido which was the scene of racist incidents last year.
The commission has taken a set of decisions meant to protect Moroccan children living abroad, re-activate the pertinent mechanisms and carry out the government's initiatives meant to avoid the repetition of similar incidents.
The commission groups nine ministerial departments.
