Turabi arrested in Sudan

Sudan's minister of culture and the information Ghazi Salah eddine, who is also the official spokesman for the Sudanese government said that the secretary general of the opposition people's congress Hassan al-Turabi was arrested together with leading figures in this party.
This was because Turabi has signed a memorandum of understanding between the party and the rebellion movement led by John Garang in Southern Sudan.
In a press conference held in al-Khartoum on Wednesday evening, Salah eddine added that this measure was taken as a preventive measure for any emergency and that investigations will be held with al-Turabi and leaderships at his party.
