Syrian official and the political forums
Syria, Politics, 2/22/2001
The London- based al-Hayat daily quoted in its Wednesday's issue the chairman of the foreign relations bureau at the Baath Party's National leadership Ali Diab as saying that the Syrian authorities have laid tough conditions for the activities of the forums because the " intellectuals" have violated national principles as some of them criticized the constitution when it called for abrogating the principle that the Baath Party will be the leader of the state and the society and considered Syria as a religious and national mosaics.
Diab added that these intellectuals violated in their statements national principles and they would have better role without undermining main issues.
He continued that " those" have misunderstood the taking oath ceremony speech delivered by President Bashar al-Assad upon his assuming power in July 2000, noting that President al-Assad has debated the projects of modernization and development because the leadership is confident of itself and its ability to contain all citizens of the homeland to contribute to building the society without violating the bases set by the late President Hafez al-Assad.
Diab continued that there are not two trends in Syria nor the " old guards and the new guards idioms," because the Baath Party is an integrated all and discusses in its conferences a work plan which is obligatory for all.
