Al-Assad says Germany can play role in peace

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad on Monday said that Germany can play an effective role in the course of the European Union to help the realization of a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East region.

This was expressed during the meeting between the President and the envoy of the German Chancellor Michael Steiner. The message dealt with ways of developing bilateral relations between Syria and Germany.

Talks dealt with the situation in the region, the importance of working for the implementation of the UN security council resolutions in being the internationally recognized terms of reference.

The German envoy stressed that the implementation of UN resolutions will lead to the realization of the awaited peace in the region.

The German envoy also conveyed an invitation to President al-Assad to visit Germany and the President accepted the invitation and promised to pay the visit as soon as possible.
