US - Moroccan scientific cooperation probed
Morocco-USA, Science, 2/19/2001

Means to upgrade the Moroccan-US cooperation in scientific research were probed during a visit paid to the USA by secretary of state for scientific research, Omar Fassi Fihri.

The official, who visited Washington over the weekend, conferred with Pierre Perrolle, head of international programs at the US National Sciences Foundation, and Osman Shinaishin, Africa and Mideast Director at the Foundation.

Talks covered cooperation and exchange possibilities between Moroccan and American searchers.

Fihri also met with officials at the US National Academy of Sciences, which carries out some 300 studies annually for US decision-makers in matters of scientific research.

Fihri agreed with the officials of the academy on the holding of scientific research workshops in the USA and Morocco.

The official also met with a group of Moroccan searchers working for research institutes and labs in Washington.

Fihri also visited Arkansas, where he signed a cooperation convention with the city's university, whereby the institution will grant six renewable scholarships for Moroccan searchers.
