Morocco ratifies convention on child labor
Morocco, Culture, 2/16/2001

Morocco ratified last January the convention on child labor adopted in June 1999 by the 87th session of the International Labor Conference. The convention will come into force in Morocco in January 2002, a statement by the Moroccan ministry of employment said, adding that the ratification of this instrument evidences Morocco's commitment to promote children's rights and to ban and eradicate all forms of child labor.

The International Labor Organization voiced satisfaction at this ratification and ILO director general, Juan Somavia, expressed gratitude to the Moroccan government for the move that he described as a new token of recognition to the ILO endeavors meant to eradicate the worst forms of child labor.
