A call to reduce food imports to the Arab states

A new report by the Arab trade financing program has called for investing available opportunities in the inter- Arab trade to achieve Arab food security through achieving self- reliance on food imports.
The report stressed the need of improving trade balanced of the Arab states and improving its negotiations position as one bloc in the world trade system and in the face of other economic blocs.
The report asserted the need of preserving the limited water resources available in the Arab states at the meantime and in the future so as to preserve the promotion of the main income source for 5% of the Arab states population who depend totally in their income on agriculture and food industry.
The report said that the relation between trade and the environment in the Arab states constitutes a very sensitive issue and of special importance especially as such a relation has become of an advanced position in the preoccupation of regional and international organizations interested in the question of trade and the environment.
