Arab League chief lashes out at Israel
Regional-Israel, Politics, 2/14/2001
Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdel Maguid accused Israel on Tuesday of exercising the most mean political manipulations.
In an interview with the Qatari Al-Raya daily, published yesterday, Abdel Maguid accused Israel of non serious orientation to the peace process after its abrogation of all what has been reached in Taba.
These practices take the region to a dangerous uphill that might finally lead to the explosion of the situation in a way Israel itself will not be able to get out of, said AL chief.
Arabs do not fear Ariel Sharon or any other Israeli and will answer in kind to the way Sharon will deal with the peace process, he said.
The only fear brewing is of the chaos and extremism which could flare up, thanks to the policies of Sharon who boasts a long history of blood-spilling and massacres, said Abdel Maguid.
Neither Sharon nor any Israeli ruler can dictate his conditions on Arabs or compel Palestinians to surrender, said Abdel Maguid, noting that peace and stability in the region is weighed against implementation of the international legitimacy resolutions and the full Israeli withdrawal from all the occupied Arab territories.
He said the Arab League will do its best to have the financial commitments pledged to Palestinians honoured.
Some $ 40 million will be transferred within days to the Palestinian Authority to pay the dues of the employees, he added.
AL is now embarking on studying a report on the Israeli use of depleted uranium shells against the Lebanese and Palestinian people, said AL chief.
