Al Bashir proposes a new plan for national reconciliation

The Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Monday proposed a new plan in order to achieve national reconciliation with the political and armed opposition. This was expressed in the speech he delivered when he took his constitutional oath before the national council after he was elected in December 2000.

Bashir who assumed power in Sudan after a coupe in 1989 gave more than one proposal for his opposition on the ground of " exchanged recognition between the government and the opposition." Bashir added that the freedom of expression about the multi culture should be guaranteed in remarks to the armed opposition in Southern Sudan.

Al-Bashir also promised of " multi election" but gave no explanations on that.

In December 2000, Sudan witnessed Presidential and legislative elections, boycotted almost by all opposition parties especially the north opposition party " al-Ummah: and the democratic federation party.

Al-Bashir who was elected for the first time in 1996 proposed earlier several formula for reconciliation.

Al-Bashir taking oath ceremony was attended by ten African presidents including President al-Qaddafi, and the President of Nigeria who also took part in the inauguration of the desert and the coast states summit in al-Khartoum.
