Iraq renew rejection to receive UN inspectors

The director general of the national inspection department in Iraq Lt. Gen. Husam Muhammad Amin has renewed his country's rejection to receive the UN inspectors. He said that UN resolution 1284 is worse that its previous one 687, rejecting the possibility of accepting it after 7 years of its issuance, especially as Iraq has implemented all its obligations.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Iraqi weekly al-Nasereyah, Lt. Gen. Amin called on the UN security council to issue a new decision states to lift the embargo and cancel UN resolution 1284 which states to suspend the sanctions imposed on Baghdad for a limited time to be automatically renewed for its co-operation with a new committee formed to monitor Iraq's armament.

The Iraqi official explained that the increasing talks about the banned Iraqi weapons at the meantime aims at creating illusion towards the just position of Iraq as well as the expected dialogue between the Un Secretary General Kofi Annan and Iraq.

The UN security council had called for releasing a new decision stated to lift the embargo and abrogate resolution 1284 which stated to suspend the sanctions imposed on Iraq for a certain period of time to be automatically renewed for Iraq's co-operation with a new committee formed to observe Iraq's armament.
