France, Egypt identity of views regarding ME peace
Egypt-France, Politics, 2/10/2001

France reiterated its backing of President Hosni Mubarak's statements on threats to the Middle East peace process and the importance of resuming negotiations.

The Foreign Ministry Spokesman highlighted Friday continued agreement between Egypt and France on analyzing the situation and developments in the region.

The two countries exchanged views on peace developments and ways to boost efforts to push forward the peacemaking drive.

In statements, the spokesman said France had followed up developments in the Middle East following the election of Ariel Sharon as the new Israeli Prime Minister.

The Spokesman renewed a call to all the parties concerned to shoulder their responsibilities, especially after the election of a new Isreali government.

On the car bomb explosion which ripped through West Jerusalem on Thursday, he regretted the blast, adding it would be harmful to the peace process.

The official called on the Palestinian and Israeli sides to honour the signed agreements.

On the role of France and the European Union (EU) in the Middle East peacemaking drive, the spokesman said efforts had been mobilized to push ahead with the peace process and overcome hurdles.
