Arab league report calls for stopping arab brain drain
Regional, Education, 2/9/2001

The Arab League called for putting an end to the draining of Arab brains abroad, pointing out that the establishment of foundations and scientific universities and organizations would play a big role in this respect.

Kuwaiti news agency KUNA said quoting an Arab League report to be submitted to the Arab foreign ministers in their meeting next march, it is important to set up a mechanism to benefit from the research and scientific achievements and the Arab intellectuals abroad.

The report stressed that brain drain from Arab states would have negative impact on the development plans and the volume of the national production, and entail large material losses exceeding $ 200 million. The report said more than 450,000 Arab university graduates are presently settled in European countries and the United States which benefit from their scientific and technological research.
