Syrian Parliament member criticizes 1000 statement and the party split advocates
Syria, Politics, 2/9/2001
The independent member at the Syrian parliament Munzir al-Mawslli on Thursday criticized the " the statement of the one thousand" recently issued in Syria by several Syrian intellectuals. He accused those who undersigned the statement as seeking to " bombard the Baath Party and abrogating its political and leading role."
Al-Mawslli explained:" the political atmosphere in Syria has been recovering at the level of the rule and the people. The rule has given the people the green light and has recognized the other during the taking- oath speech made by President Bashar al-Assad.
He added that this constitutes a historical turning point that is not expected in the one party rule and the allies of the front.
On the response of the Syrian street with the proposals made by the intellectuals, al-Mawslli said that " the street has basic demands but it does not means that this street complies with their calls which aim at toppling the regime, because the street does not know the reality of the statement and its hidden lines.
