The coordination office of the Non-Alignment Movement (NAM) discussed during a meeting Tuesday in New York at Libya's request, the recent developments of the Lockerbie issue in light of the January 31 Scottish court is ruling.

Egypt's Permanent Delegate to the UN Ambassador Ahmed Abul Gheit said that Egypt had supported during the meeting Libya's demand to completely lift sanctions imposed on it after its full implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions, and also in line with agreements reached prior to handing over the two suspects.

'The meeting was a great demonstration of support by Non-Aligned states to the Libyan demand and it was agreed that the head of coordination office would direct a message to the head of the Security Council and the UN secretary general, demanding the full and immediate lifting of sanctions imposed on Libya,Δω he added.

Libya's Permanent Delegate to the UN briefed the conferees on agreement signed prior to handing over the two Libyan suspects to the Scottish court. 'Libya has met all its commitments regarding those agreements and all relevant UNSC resolutions,Δω he stressed.

Meanwhile, diplomatic sources in New York affirmed that the NAM discussions had reflected a unified stand that supporting Libya.

The US and Britain asked the Libyan government to abide by the stipulations of the UN Security Council resolutions concerning the sanctions imposed on Tripoli ten years ago.

'A top of these stipulations is the payment of compensations to families of the victims of the air bombing of the Pan-American flight over Lockerbie in 1988 and bering responsibility for the act,Δω said the two US and British top diplomats.

In a joint news conference with his British counterpart Rubin Cook, US State Secretary Colin Powell said after their talks in Washington late Tuesday that the latest ruling which incriminated a Libyan suspect and acquitted another was a top of the agenda of their talks which took about two and half hours.

Cook negated that the diplomatic relation resumption between London and Tripoli was a surprise for Libya, considering it a means of contact to stress the necessity of both Libya's payment of compensations and Libya's bearing of Lockerbie accident.
