Second GSM operator in Morocco to launch internet on mobile phones
Morocco, Business, 2/8/2001
Medi-Telecom, the second GSM operator in Morocco, is about to launch a new product, the Generalized Packet radio Service (GPRS), opening thus the way to mobile internet in the country.
The announcement was made here Wednesday at a news conference by the operator's chairman and general manager, Saad Bendidi and Ramon Enciso.
The connection tests conducted last January 29 showed that the GPRS equipment installed by Ericsson was in order, they said adding the GPRS will enable GSM phone subscribers to access many new services and to use internet with all its applications.
Besides the fact that the users are constantly connected to the internet without any additional costs, the GPRS provides another advantage, namely the transmission speed that is sometimes ten times higher than traditional data transmission on a GSM.
