Al-Ayed denies to be involved in a corruption case
Syria, Politics, 2/8/2001
One of the four members of the Syrian People's Assembly (PA) who was brought before the court on charges of wasting the public assets Mustafa al-Ayed has denied to had been involved in any case which falls in the framework of fighting corruption.
He noted that there might be personal reason inside the General Federation of Peasants he presides over that were behind fabricating accusations and magnifying small administrative mistakes that do not constitute " a financial crime."
In a statement to the Kuwaiti daily al-Anbaa issued on Wednesday al-Ayed said that parliamentary immunity was not lifted from him nor his other three colleagues and the parliament. He added that the trial will be held while they are still on top of their work after the speaker of the People's Assembly (PA) had permitted the judiciary to file the case. He stressed he has confidence in the fairness of the law and careful to have the truth come out.
He explained that the case raised against him went back to 1998 when the executive committee of the General Federation of peasants decided to change an old care by a new one and the Change was made via Lebanon.
He added that the second care pertains to the use of a microbus for the federation by him and other two members to perform al-Haj rituals.
