Mubarak, Jaber discuss preparation for Arab summit

Egypt's President Mubarak yesterday sustained his Arab tour by visiting Kuwait for talks with Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed for consultations on issues topping the agenda of this tour such as preparation for the forthcoming Arab summit, horizons of the Palestinian cause and the Middle East peace march.
President Mubarak arrived in Kuwait yesterday on a two day visit after successful talks in Tunis with President Zine Al Abidine Bin Ali.
The Kuwaiti people gave President Mubarak a standing ovation, expressing their appreciation of President's Mubarak efforts to enhance bilateral relations and sustained consultation with Kuwaiti leadership on various issues of common interest to Gulf states and the Arab region as whole.
President Mubarak's talks in Kuwait also covered issues of security and stability in the Gulf, Arab endeavors for establishing a strong economic entity and enhancing the march of bilateral cooperation through the joint higher Egyptian Kuwaiti committee.
Minister of Information Safwat Al Sherif has stressed the importance of President Mubarak's visit to Kuwait saying it is aimed at mapping out an Arab visit towards Middle East issue, the future of the peace process, out of the two leaders keenness to discuss the Arab position in general and regional positions in particular.
Al Ahram reports that the visit assumes a special significance for the following reasons:
- This visit is the sixth one by president mubarak since the liberation of Kuwait. Al Ahram in this context asserts that Egypt does not play any mediation role between Iraq and Kuwait.
However Egypt does not also accept any threats to Kuwait's sovereignty.
Amr Moussa said Egypt is not satisfied with latest Iraqi threats to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
Moussa also said this escalation should be stopped so that Arab relations may be established on sound basis.
- President Mubarak's keenness to visit Kuwait at this juncture for discussing bilateral issues is highly appreciated by Kuwait.
President Mubarak is also keen to meet a number of political figures before leaving Kuwait to underline the depth of links combining the two countries at the various levels.
