Spanish fish professionals stage actions against Moroccan fish exports
Morocco-Spain, Economics, 2/5/2001

Fish professionals of the Spanish southern region of Andalusia will stage this week a mobilization campaign against the entrance of Moroccan fish exports to Spain, as a pressure on Morocco in the fisheries negotiations with the European Union.

The Spanish southern fishery professionals, ship owners, and trade unions decided at a meeting on Friday to gather in the southern ports of Cadiz, Malaga, Almeria and Huelva to require a more stringent health control of Moroccan fish products. They also decided to stage a set of similar actions in airports and fish freezing industrial units.

An official from the CC-OO trade union said in case the Moroccan fish products are not submitted to a rigorous sanitary control, the fishery professionals will have two options: block the ports or denounce the sanitary control authorities.
