Lockerbie victims lawyers call for compensation
Libya, Politics, 2/3/2001
The lawyer of the families of the American victims of the Lockerbie incident Kim Krindler said on Friday that the American families will file a case against the Libyan government asking for a compensation of US $ 10 billion.
News reports quoted Krindler in a statement to the Scottish BBC that " the sentence on the Libyan convict Abdul Baser al-Miqrahi over being involved in the Lockerbie issue gave them enough reasons to start taking civilian measures."
The lawyer added that the sentence on al-Miqrahi explains that he is a state employee and therefor "we hold the Libyan government the responsibility because he is recruited by it."
He explained that the case does not include obtaining extra compensations only from Libya but also imposing sanctions on it.
