Syria voices support for Libya
Syria-Libya, Politics, 2/3/2001

Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Shara on Friday made a telephone call with the Libyan secretary of External Liaison Abdul Rahman Shalqam. The Libyan official briefed al-Shara on the evaluation and assessment of the Libyan leadership on the development of the Lockerbie issue following the ruling made by the Scottish court on this issue.

The Syrian minister noted Syria's stand in support of the Libyan position in resisting pressure and the blackmailing attempts against Libya.

Al-Shara also stressed the need of an immediate lifting of the sanctions imposed on the brotherly people of Libya.

The Syrian minister expressed hope that the imposition of sanctions against the peoples would be abandoned completely, especially they are imposed by double standard criteria when its comes to the Middle East issues.
