Morocco's social efforts surveyed in new york

Moroccan minister of employment, vocational training, social development and solidarity, Abbes El Fassi, held a meeting here Wednesday with assistant UN secretary general for economic and social affairs, Nitin Desai.
The Moroccan official surveyed Morocco's social undertakings and recalled that unemployment rate was curbed to 15% of the active population and that 48% of Morocco's budget was allocated to social sectors. Special efforts are made to struggle against poverty and begging through the creation of jobs, mainly in edged out areas, he said.
He also recalled that Morocco had to face a number of economic and social problems during the past two years in view of consecutive years of drought, hike in oil prices and depreciation of the European currency, the Euro, compared to the US dollar, in addition to the problem of the idleness of 200,000 high degree-holders.
Abbes El Fassi is part of the Moroccan delegation to the preparatory committee for the special session of the General Assembly on children held in the United Nations headquarters.
The delegation is led by Prince Moulay Rachid, younger brother to King Mohammed VI, and chairman of the Moroccan preparatory committee for the special session, and also includes Princess Lalla Meriem, chairwoman of the Moroccan observatory for children's rights.
