Uzbekistan hosts international conference on Islam

An international conference on Islam dubbed "Islam and contemporary society" opened on Thursday in Tashkent, capital city of Uzbekistan. The forum means to highlight the role of Islam in a laic society, particularly in the fields of knowledge and education, said head of the Uzbek sciences academy, Aulan Deletroz. He added participants will probe co-existence between religions.
Debates will also cover the usefulness of religious education.
Participants includes academics, researchers and university teachers from Muslim countries, the USA, Russia and France.
