Princess Lalla Meriem meets Iraqi association's chairwoman

Morocco's Princess Lalla Meriem, chairwoman of the Moroccan observatory for children's rights, conferred here Wednesday with chairwoman of the General Union of Iraqi Women, Manal Younes El Aloussi.

Ms El Aloussi expressed thanks to Morocco for its clear cut and firm opposition to the embargo decreed against Iraq and for its concrete actions in favor of the Iraqi children and the Iraqi people at large who are deeply affected by the sanctions.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the preparatory committee for the special session of the General Assembly on children held in the United Nations headquarters in New York January 29 through 31.

Princess Lalla Meriem also conferred with the personal representative of the head of state of Finland to the preparatory committee session, Ms Eva Kuskoski on Moroccan-Finnish relations.

On Wednesday evening, Princess Lalla Meriem hosted a function in honor of women-heads of delegations to the preparatory committee session and UN senior executives.

The function was attended by spouses of ambassadors of several friendly countries, representatives of the international press in New York and members of the Moroccan delegation.

Prince Moulay Rachid --who led the Moroccan delegation to the preparatory committee session, renewed on Monday Morocco's pledge to promote and uphold children's rights and to assume responsibility regarding children, in accordance with the World Declaration and other legal covenants related to children's rights.
