UNDP willing to enhance cooperation with Morocco
Morocco, Culture, 2/1/2001

Administrator of the UN Development Program (UNDP) Mark Malloch Brown voiced on Wednesday the program's willingness to enhance cooperation with Morocco and to back the kingdom's development projects.

This came at a meeting in New York with Princess Lalla Meriem, chairwoman of the Moroccan observatory for children's rights, who was attending the preparatory committee for the special session of the General Assembly on children held in the United Nations headquarters January 29 through 31.

The UNDP administrator said that the program was ready to back all development projects carried out by Morocco in cooperation with the UN system and that he and his aides would visit Morocco to examine on the spot practical means of pushing forward UNDP-Morocco cooperation.

Talks also stressed the need to adopt an integrated approach to UNDP actions regarding woman, children and rural development.

Princess Lalla Meriem, who is also chairwoman of the Moroccan association of support to the UNICEF, had met on Tuesday Executive Director of UNICEF (UN Children's Fund), Carol Bellamy, executive director of the UN Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), Ms Thoraya Ahmed Obaid.
