An executive protocol for the Syrian- Iraqi free trade zone

Syrian- Iraqi talks chaired by the Syrian prime minister Muhammad Mustafa Miro and the Iraqi vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan were concluded in Damascus on Wednesday.

At the beginning of the closing session the Syrian prime minister stressed that the visit of Ramadan and members of the accompanying delegation's visit to Damascus were important and of positive results in various areas.

He added that this visit has renewed national and historical ties between the two countries and was a turning point towards opening a new page of bilateral cooperation and consolidation of solid foundations for further cooperation. Ramadan, for his part indicated the importance of the executive program signed to establish the free trade zone between the two countries and a main step for the Arab economic unity and the establishment of the common Arab market.

Then the Syrian prime minister and the Iraqi vice President signed the executive protocol to set up the free trade zone between the Syrian and the Iraqi Arab Republics.

This protocols aims at liberalizing trade exchange between the two states through new formula that comply with the nature of the new economic attitudes on the national, regional and international arenas, within the framework of the Arab League charter, the Arab economic unity agreement and the common Arab market agreement.

Later in the day, the Iraqi prime minister and members of the accompanying delegation left Damascus following a visit to Syria which lasted for three days.He was seen off by premier Miro and high ranking officials concerned.
