After the Presidential and legislative elections which took place in December 2000, Sudan is preparing for the trade unions elections.
In this regard, the leading bureau of the national congress party, led by President Omar Hassan al-Bashir discussed on Sunday preparations for the trade unions elections and sub committees were formed to follow up this matter.
The Sudanese opposition democratic national coalition approved to take part in these elections and started a vast campaign to reactivate its cadres and to attract more supporters in the main Sudanese trade unions.
Meantime, the leader of al-Ummah party al-Sadeq al-Mahdi stressed that his party studied the possibility of taking part in the elections but he postponed taking a decision to this effect until he makes sure of the nature of the elections. The people's congress party took a similar decision.
For his part former chairman of the Sudanese workers federation Mahjoub al-Zubeir called for the judiciary supervision of these elections and to give the working class the opportunity to choose their proper candidates to shoulder the responsibility in the coming phase.
