Morocco-UNICEF-UNFPA Talks in New York

Morocco's Princess Lalla Meriem, chairwoman of the Moroccan observatory for children's rights and chairwoman of the Moroccan association of support to the UNICEF, met Tuesday at the UN headquarters here Executive Director of UNICEF (UN Children's Fund), Carol Bellamy.
Talks covered preparations for the special session of the General Assembly on children slated for next September, as well as joint Morocco-UNICEF projected priority actions.
Princess Lalla Meriem is attending in New York the preparatory committee for the special session of the General Assembly on children held in the United Nations headquarters January 29 through 31.
She insisted on the new approach that links childhood protection and the improvement of the situation of women.
The same topic was discussed at another meeting Princess Lalla Meriem held with executive director of the UN Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), Ms Thoraya Ahmed Obaid.
Both UN officials have hailed Morocco's involvement, at the highest level, in the preparation of the UN special session on children and the importance the kingdom grants to childhood issues. They also hailed Morocco for hosting regional and sub-regional events, part of the preparation of the special session.
Princess Lalla Meriem also conferred with several heads of delegations taking part in the preparatory committee meeting. She thus met the spouse of the President of Guyana, Ms Varchnie Jagdeo and the chairwoman of the Ghanean national commission for childhood, Ms Alberta Quartey.
