Egypt, Politics, 1/29/2001
The executive Council for the UN development program holds its first annual meeting for the year 2001 within the period from January 29 till February 6.
Ambassador Ahmad Abu Al Gheit announced that the most important issue on the agenda of the meetings of the executive council, is its role in spots of disputes and the reconstruction process.
He required the United Nations to intensify its efforts especially in supporting the developing countries where many of them suffer from civil wars and sectarian conflicts that abort all development efforts and demolish the economic structure.
Some other developing countries suffer from economic reform programmmes, which require reconsideration in drawing up the world developmental plan.
Egypt has been elected for the membership of this executive council for three years since the first of January 2000.
Abu Al Gheit pointed out that Egypt initiated coordination with representatives of the developing countries and the UN member states seeking to set up the headlines for means of support for developing countries without interference in the their internal affairs.
Development is a top priority for many donors being linked to the role of the international organization in a way that copes with the international political and economic changes.
These changes proved that the developing countries are the big loser under globalization especially that they suffer from internal conflicts and civil wars which usually result in poverty and illiteracy.
This requires that development efforts should be directed to meet the hopes and ambitions of developing countries seeking a better future.
