Morocco ties with Egypt in world cup qualifier

Moroccan national football team tied 0-0 on Sunday in Cairo with Egyptian peer in an African qualifier for the for 2002 world cup.

Although the Egyptian "pharaohs" dominated the play, they failed to score and gave Moroccans a precious tie in front of a crowd of 90,000 at Cairo's International Stadium.

With the new result, the Moroccans now hold the first rank in Group C with five points gleaned in 3 matches. Algeria rank 2nd with 4 points from 3 matches, Senegal holds the 3rd rank, followed Egypt and Namibia.

The winner from each of the five African groups advances to the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea.

Morocco played four times in the World Cup (1970, 1986, 1994, 1998).
