One French pilot killed in a Mirage crash in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia-France, Local, 1/26/2001

Both al-Riyadh and Paris announced on Thursday that a French Mirage jet of the French air force fell over the Saudi territories and that its pilot was killed after the plane had a technical breakdown.

However, the French planes that exist in Saudi Arabia do not take part in the operations to monitor the air embargo imposed by Washington and London after the Gulf war. These French planes limit their sorties just for training following the French decision taken in December 1998 not to take part in the sanctions.

The ministries of defense in both Saudi Arabia and France announced the news of the killing of the pilot whose plane " Mirage F 1 CS" fell upon returning back from a training mission. The plane was in its final landing phase in al-Kharaj base, to the Southern east of Prince Sultan air base, 80 Km to the south of the capital al-Riyadh.
