Sudanese delegate to IGAD' s member states
Sudan, Politics, 1/24/2001
The advisor for the Sudanese President for peace affairs Ahmad Ibrahim al-Taher has revealed that an official delegation from the peace consultant department will during the few coming days make a tour of several IGAD member countries to discuss the peace process between the Sudanese government and the rebellion movement led by John Garang.
The Sudanese daily Akhbar al-Youm quoted al-Taher as saying that the tour will cover Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti and the delegation will convey messages from the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir to the Presidents of these countries and will hold talks with their prime ministers on how to resume negotiations with the rebellion movement.
Al-Taher explained that the main obstacle in the peace negotiations is Garang's presidency of the rebellion's movement because he ( Garang) has kept himself apart from peace and inclined towards escalating war in collaboration with his allies. Al-Taher added that Garang's current tour of several European countries aims at convincing the west to side with him in his war against the country ( Sudan) despite the fact that all reasons that necessitate the continuation of war in South Sudan have been eliminated.
