Bahrain ratifies GCC defense agreement

Bahrain has ratified the joint defense agreements of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states signed by leaders of the GCC during their recent summit held in al-Manama in December 2000.

This was announced in a statement made by the GCC secretary general Sheikh Jamil al-Hujeilan on Monday in al-Riyadh in which he said he had received a copy of an Emiri decree released by the Emir of Bahrain ratifying the said agreement.

Al-Hujeilan stressed that this agreement considers any aggression against any member of the GCC states is but an aggression against all of them and that any danger threatening one of them is a threat to all of them.

Hujeilan expressed his hope that other countries members at the GCC will complete the ratification measures of these agreements very soon.

The said agreement, however, draws an obligatory legal framework for military co-operation among the GCC member states especially if one of its countries comes under foreign threats.
