Efforts to encourage French investment in Sudan

Sudan and France have agreed to eliminate obstacles hindering the French companies from investing in Sudan and to ensure necessary guarantees for that.
The Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael who accompanied President Omar Hassan al-Bashir to the Afro-French summit which was held in Cameroon last week revealed that he had discussed together with the French International cooperation minister, at the directives of Presidents Omar al-Bashir and Jacques Chirac details of the topics discussed by the two Presidents's lengthy meeting held on the sideline of the summit's meetings.
In a statement to the Sudanese daily al-Rai al- Am issues on Monday, Ismael explained he had agreed with the French minister to eliminate all obstacles hindering the work of the French investment companies in Sudan, to ensue necessary protection guarantee to them. He attributed reasons behind France's lack of desire to invest in the country during the past period to the tension prevailed between Khartoum with capitals of the European Union EU member states.
Minister Ismael said that the two sides had agreed to exchange the visits of ministers and France to try to eliminate impediments witch stand against the normalization of Sudan's relations with all countries of the EU besides trying to lift the international sanctions imposed on Sudan to restore back its membership to the International Monetary Fund and to join the UN Security Council.
Ismael continued he had agreed with the French minister on the need of maintaining efforts between Khartoum and Paris in regional issues especially as Sudan is presiding over IGAD states and will preside over the coalition of the Coasts and desert states. Besides it is linked to remarkable relations with some countries of the Group like Chad and central Africa.
