Algerian imports of cereals up
Algeria, Economics, 1/23/2001
Algeria has imported 7.3 million tons of cereals in 2000, and thereby representing an increase of 12% over its cereals imports in 1999, of 800,000 tons. This was as a result of the recession of Algeria's cereal production because of the drought wave hit the country.
Algerian official statistics said that Algeria has paid as a price for this wheat US $ 600-800 million in average annually. This, however, made of it among the ten cereal- imported countries in the worlds.
The statistics also indicate that Algeria imports cereals from three countries; France, Canada and the USA.
