Egypt, Iraq sign agricultural cooperation program

Egypt and Iraq on Thursday signed a programme of coordination, cooperation and integration in the agricultural domain for the coming five years.

Deputy Premier and Minister of Agriculture and land reclamation youssef Wali signed for the Egyptian side, while his Iraqi counterpart Abdallah Hamid Muhammad signed for his country.

The agreement includes the implementation of a number of joint research programmes in the field of agricultural produce, especially palm trees, grains, soyabeans, cotton, vegetables, fruits, in addition to cooperation in the plant protection research field.

The two countries will also cooperate in the areas of genetic engineering, land reclamation as well as developing ways of irrigation and drainage. This cooperation comes within the context of linking research activities with production and marketing polices.
