Morocco's prize goes to Palestinian child Mohamed al Durrah, martyrs and photographer
Morocco-Palestine, Culture, 1/20/2001

Morocco's north-south cultural communication 2001 prize was awarded on Friday to Palestinian child Ahmed Al Durrah, to all Palestinian children martyrs and to French TV photographer.

Prof. Mehdi El Mandjra, who created the prize following the second gulf war, said the award is a tribute to the struggle for dignity, justice and freedom waged by children armed with stones against tanks.

Al Mandjra says the 2001 choice honors the struggle of the Palestinian people and children and is actually an "anti-prize" because the tragedy of Palestine, like that of Iraq, shows that most of the western media is dominated by a fear of the other, incomprehension and the subsequent enmity.

The prize was created in 1991 by El Mandjra, author of "the first civilization war," and is awarded every January 17, to mark the launching of the allied forces war against Iraq.
