Palestinian - Israeli secret meetings held in Istanbul
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 1/20/2001
The two Turkish dailies Millet and al-Joumhoreyah said on Friday that a secret meeting was held between the Israeli and Palestinian sides on Thursday evening in the Hilton hotel in Istanbul with the participation of 26 civilian and military officials under strong security measures.
Millet said that the organizer of the meeting is a political mediator and consultant called M. Jershin but did not disclose his identity.
The paper added that the Palestinian officer Mansour Abu Rashid took part in the meeting. But al-Joumhoreyah quoted Abu Rashid as saying that he did not come to Istanbul to make talks, rather for tourism. However, the strong security measures taken in the floor where the meeting was held contradict Abu Rashid's statement.
The paper noted that the residents of the hotel were prevented from approaching the meeting hall and that the servants team in the said floor was chosen very carefully.
The paper explained that the Palestinian- israeli secret meetings in Istanbul's meeting were held on three sessions started as from 9 p.m. until late hour of the day.
