The Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Shara on Thursday received member of the foreign relations council in New York Richard Murphy who is also former US under secretary of states for the Near East affairs. Go

The preliminary meeting for the Syrian- Libyan higher joint committee led by the deputy minister of the economy and foreign trade Fuad al-Sayed arrived in Tripoli on Thursday. The delegation includes representatives for most state's ministries and establishments and businessmen. Go

Morocco's King Mohammed VI left this Friday Yaounde where he took part in the 21 st Africa-France summit held on Jan.18-19. In his speech to the summit, the king hoped that globalization would not edge out Africa and entail further splits and exclusions and that the international community would not indefinitely accept an asymmetrical, one-way globalization. Go

Iraq stressed on Thursday that the sanctions imposed on the Iraqi people resulted in the spread of diseases that caused the death of more than 11,000 persons mostly children since December 2000. Go

The committee in charge of following up the resolutions of the Arab summit recently held in Cairo will convene a meeting in Amman on February 10 with the participation of delegations representing the Arab states members in the said committee. Go

A Moroccan source said that Morocco will attend the summit of the coasts and desert states which will be held in the Sudanese capital, al-Khartoum on February 12 and 13. The source did not specify the level at which the Moroccan delegation will take part. Go

Morocco's exports of fruits and early vegetables declined up to January 12 by 27% from 137,000 tons in the previous season to 100,000 tons. A report of the agriculture ministry says the decline was sharper in tomato exports which totaled 74,500 tons (-37%) while potato exports increased by 67% to reach 1,000 tons and other fruits and vegetables exports recorded a 27% increase with 25,000 tons. Morocco and China signed in Rabat on Thursday an agreement providing for cooperation in sports and for increasing exchanges and communication in sports fields. Under the agreement, initialed by Moroccan youth and sports minister, Ahmed Moussaoui, and visiting vice-chairman of the Chinese sports department, Li Zhijiang, the two countries will be cooperating in building, managing and rehabilitating sports facilities.
